Mermaid Course for Children and Teenagers – Foundation
This mermaid course for children and teenagers is a great introduction to the unique world of mermaiding. With support and guidance from our mermaid instructor, you will get a taste of what it is like to be a magical water creature as you glide through the water with a mermaid tail. Students will get an introduction to the sensational enchantment of mermaid diving. Come and join the fun.
Requirements to participate
The mermaid course is suitable for all levels of experience. Beginners who have never tried mermaiding before are welcome to join as well as more experienced mermaids and mermen.
All participants must be at least ten years old and in good physical health. Strong swimming abilities are required to join this course.
Please keep in mind that mermaiding is exhausting. Therefore, please only sing up for this program, if you can swim above and underwater confidently and without any assistance.
What happens during this Mermaid Course?
First, we start with a theory part on land. This will take around 30 minutes. We will talk about mermaid safety and mermaiding foundations. Furthermore, we will learn about mermaid equipment and practice the mermaid movement on land. Then it’s time to get into the mermaid tails and into the water. After we run through some safety skills, our instructor will lead you through simple mermaid activities. And of course, you have the chance to practice your first mermaid tricks too.

What to bring
Please bring swimming goggles and anything else you would take with you to a regular swim at the pool. If you have your own mermaid tail from Mermaid Kat Shop, bring it. Otherwise, you can hire a mermaid tail for an additional AUD 10.00.
How did this Mermaid Course come about?
This mermaid course and it’s structure was originally created by the professional Mermaid Kat, who is also a fully trained scuba diving instructor, freediving instructor and underwater stuntwoman. The professional mermaid opened her mermaid school (Mermaid Kat Academy) back in August 2012. As a result, she was one of the first people in the world, who made mermaiding assessable to the public. Since then, more than 10,000 mermaids and mermen have participated in this mermaid course.
Please note:
In the past we have unfortunately had many bad experiences with mermaid tails from different manufacturers. For safety reasons, we only allow participants to take part in our mermaid courses with mermaid tails from Mermaid Kat Shop. These are safe and specially designed for freediving and mermaiding. If you have a mermaid fin from another manufacturer, we ask you to book this course with a rental tail.
Pool entrance fee for participants and spectators is not included in the course fee and must be paid separately at the aquatic centre.
